Avocado: The Challenge of Complex Flowering, Solved
The complex reproductive biology of avocado and the low attractiveness of its flowers to hymenopterans result in a fruit set rate of less than 1%. With distinct male and female flowering phases, the crop demands synchronized and efficient pollen transfer to achieve a good fruit set. Having the right pollinators directly translates into greater production.
At Polyfly, we have perfected a biological solution to this challenge. Our hoverflies, Queenfly® and Goldfly®, are exceptionally effective at foraging avocado flowers, moving pollen between floral stages under unpredictable weather conditions, and operating within a wide temperature range (14 °C–36 °C). They adapt to crop conditions, ensuring:
- Under netting, an increase in yield of over 80% has been recorded, and in open field, an average increase of more than 225% in the Lamb Hass variety.
- Larger and heavier fruits by optimizing fertilization.
- More floral visits, better harvest. Well-adapted and efficient pollinators are essential to increase flower visits and significantly improve productivity, especially in netted plots.
The difference between an average harvest and an exceptional one lies in the quality of pollination. Trust in Polyfly’s solution.
