Avocado: the challenge of a complex bloom, Solved

The complex reproductive biology of avocados and the low attraction of their flowers to hymenopterans result in a fruit set rate below 1%. The avocado presents dichogamy with male and female phases in its flowers, requiring synchronized and efficient pollen transfer to achieve good fruit set. Having the right pollinators translates directly into higher production.

At Polyfly we have perfected a biological solution to this challenge. Our QUEENFLY® and GOLDFLY® hoverflies are exceptionally effective at foraging avocado flowers, without floral preferences and capable of mobilizing pollen between different floral stages. They develop their activity under unpredictable weather conditions, covering a wider temperature range (14°C–36°C). They adapt to crop conditions, ensuring:

  • Under netting, yield increases of over 80% have been recorded, and in open fields, an average increase of more than 225% in the Lamb Hass variety.
  • Fruits of larger size and weight by optimizing fertilization.
  • More floral visits, better harvest. Well-adapted and effective pollinators are needed to increase floral visits and significantly improve productivity, especially in netted plots.

The difference between an average harvest and an exceptional one lies in the quality of pollination. Trust Polyfly’s solution.
