Avocado: The Challenge of a Complex Bloom, Solved
The complex reproductive biology of the avocado and the low attraction of its flowers for hymenoptera result in a fruit set rate of less than 1%. With its male and female floral phases, it demands synchronized and efficient pollen transfer to achieve good fruit set. Having the right pollinators directly translates into increased production.
At Polyfly, we have perfected a biological solution for this challenge. Our Queenfly® and Goldfly® hoverflies are exceptionally effective at foraging avocado flowers, moving pollen between the different floral states, under unpredictable weather conditions, covering a wider temperature range (14 °C–36 °C). They adapt to the crop conditions, ensuring:
- Under netting, a yield increase of over 80% has been recorded, and in open fields, an average increase of more than 225% in the Lamb Hass variety.
- Fruits of larger size and weight by optimizing fertilization.
- More floral visits, better harvest. Well-adapted and effective pollinators are needed to increase floral visits and significantly improve productivity, especially in netted plots.
The difference between an average harvest and an exceptional one lies in the quality of pollination. Trust Polyfly’s solution.
