The adults begin their pollination activity between 1 and 3 days after emerging.
During the first hours they expel the meconium, which leaves small dark spots on the box or in the area where they have emerged. During this period they remain in protected areas while they complete the hardening of the exoskeleton and the full development of the wings. In this phase they do not yet fly and are especially vulnerable to predators. Once this maturation process is finished, they begin to fly and actively search for flowers in search of nectar (their main source of energy, sugars) and pollen (which provides proteins), thus beginning their pollination activity.
